Purdue Alumnus Gives $ 2 Million to Football Program

Yesterday Purdue University graduate Carl Bimel bequeathed $2 million dollars to the football program he loves.  According to ESPN.com, the 84 year old Bimel said “In my lifetime, I have only had one wife and one football team.”  Purdue University has named the football practice fields after Bimel.

Bimel ONLY had one wife and one football team but he had a multi-million dollar career running a construction company in Ohio.  So a couple extra million dollars are now in the Purdue University endowment fund.

Bimel used to help recruit Boilermaker players and in 2004 he endowed a football scholarship for the program.   Schools like Purdue need boosters like Bimel to compete with fellow Big 10 programs like Michigan, Ohio State, and Wisconsin.

Purdue quarterback and current New Orleans Saint Drew Brees recently signed a 5-year, $100 million agreement with $60 million guaranteed, and a $37 million signing bonus to be paid in 2012.  Time will tell if Brees will be as charitable to his first black and old-gold clad team as Bimel has been to his ONLY black and old-gold clad football team.

Donation from Brees or no donation from Brees, Purdue University is rolling in the green thanks to Bimel.
