Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson will not start for the Wolverines Saturday against Northwestern. Backup QB Devin Gardner will helm the offense in place of Shoelace.
Robinson is still battling nerve problems with his right elbow (throwing arm). He has struggled to grip the football while dealing with this injury. He suffered the injury against Nebraska two weeks ago.
Gardner started for Robinson last week against Minnesota. He completed 12 of 18 passes for 234 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He also added 10 carries for 21 yards and a touchdown.
Gardner is more of a pro-style quarterback, but still has the ability to beat defenses with his feet. Robinson will be missed, but Gardner will be able to fill in nicely for the Wolverines.
Northwestern travels to Ann Arbor Saturday to take on Michigan at Michigan Stadium at noon ET.
UPDATE: Sources are reporting that Robinson missed practice all week.
