And you thought No. 6 Florida had completed the toughest part of it schedule after completing SEC conference play last weekend. There you go, thinking again.
Coach Will Muschamp had his work cut out for him at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium Saturday, as the Gators nearly lost an upset game to the Sun Belt Sun Beast’s own Louisiana-Lafayette 27-20.
Florida found itself down 20-13 with 13:11 left in the fourth quarter. Fortunately for Gator fans, Jacoby Brissett’s three-yard pass to Quinton Dunbar helped tie the game up for what ended up being an incredible finish. With two second remaining in the game, Jalani Jenkins returned a blocked Ragin’ Cajun punt 36 yards for a touchdown that clinched the game for the Gators.
Quarterback Jeff Driskel completed 13 of 16 pass attempts for 98 yards and one touchdown. He also added 12 carries for 76 yards. Brissett completed six passes for 64 yards, and receiver Jordan Reed reeled in five receptions for 85 yards.
For the Cajuns, running back Alonzo Harris carried the ball for 68 yards on 20 carries for one touchdown, and wide out Harry Peoples nabbed 10 passes for 73 yards.
Florida (9-1, 7-1 SEC) will host Jacksonville State next Saturday in the Swamp.
