This season will go down as the most peculiar year for running backs who played for the Iowa Hawkeyes. The team was plagued with running back injuries totaling over a half dozen, and on Thursday, Iowa fans learned another player defected from the team’s backfield.

HawkCentral.com reported on Thursday running back Greg Garmon was granted his release from the school, and will ultimately transfer to a different university.
The 6-foot-1, 200-pound Eria, Pa. product rushed 38 times for 122 yards, and caught eight receptions for 57 yards in his freshman year this season. He is a former four-star recruit, and held offers from several schools such as Arkansas, Florida State, Michigan, Ohio State, Texas A&M, and West Virginia, among others.
If Garmon transfers to another FBS program, he will sit out an entire season. However, if he transfer to a FCS program, he is eligible to play in 2013.
