Four Downs kicks off your day with college football links from around the ‘Net.
Recruiting takes center stage of your morning links on Four Downs. Florida and UCLA are putting the finishing touches on impressive classes, with National Signing Day just a week away.
Hail Florida Hail: Florida Gator Recruiting Hits The Backstretch To Signing Day
Rivals.com ranks Will Muschamp’s 2013 signing class the nation’s best, but Florida isn’t done yet. Muschamp and staff are seeking to close out the recruiting season strong — and no addition would be stronger than consensus No. 1 overall recruit Robert Nkemdiche.
The nation’s top prospect looks like a long shot for the Gators, but Florida has designs on such final targets as former Auburn commit Tashawn Bower.
The Oklahoman: Tyus Bowser decommits from Oklahoma State
Mike Gundy lost a commitment from three star Tyler (Texas) defensive end Tyus Bowser, less than two weeks after he made his official visit to Oklahoma State. Bowser is also a Division I basketball prospect and wants to play both sports; his high school coach, Ricklan Holmes, told The Oklahoman playing both was not a possibility at OSU.
Bowser has other football offers from Missouri and Memphis, both of which reached the 2012 NCAA basketball tournament, as well as Texas Tech, La.-Lafayette and West Virginia.
Highly touted running back recruit Derrick Henry is accustomed to getting the ball. The MaxPreps National Player of the Year broke a prep rushing record for career yards, which stood nearly six decades. Henry is not ready to take a backseat coming into the running back factory that is Alabama, and he let Crimson Tide quarterback A.J. McCarron know just that via Twitter.
Sports Illustrated: USC, UCLA Classes Moving in Opposite Directions
The Crosstown Showdown is taking on a new dynamic, and nowhere is that more evident than on the recruiting trail. USC head coach Lane Kiffin is working to maintain an impressive class, but has lost several high profile commitments. Meanwhile, UCLA’s Jim Mora is scoring big in the final stretch before National Signing Day.
Tahaan Goodman pledged to the Bruins, but the major coup came in the commitment of top 100 prospect Priest Willis.
