California trips will no longer be reserved strictly for the champion of the Big Ten.

Various media outlets are reporting that the San Diego-based Holiday Bowl and the San Francisco-based Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl will announce newly formed affiliations with the Big Ten on Monday.

The affiliation changes will become effective as part of the 2014 season.

Both games will pit a Big Ten game against a Pac-12 team, as does the Rose Bowl (usually, at least).

Reports also have the Pac-12 giving the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl the fourth pick among its league teams. The bowl currently picks sixth.

The Big Ten intends to avoid a similar permanent pecking order with its affiliated bowls.
