Gus Malzahn returns to the Auburn Tigers after a one-year layoff. The offensive guru who helped the 2010 Tigers to a BCS championship took a season-long sabbatical to Arkansas State, where he guided the RedWolves to the Sun Belt Conference championship.

Coincidentally, Malzahn’s predecessor at Arkansas State was Hugh Freeze, who was a first-year SEC coach last season with the Ole Miss Rebels. Freeze exceeded expectations in leading Ole Miss to a bowl appearance and seven wins. Can a former RedWolves coach make it two seasons in a row of expectation-defying success?
