“Defense Wins Championships!” That old adage has echoed throughout the annals of college football history, or at least where appropriate. Last season, the Florida Gators had a defense that was good enough to get Florida a championship, had they an offense to score some points. Therein lies the problem. The offense was a shambles last year. The running game, the Gators’ bread and butter, was stale at best, while the passing attack was ineffective, particularly when they had to pass. The result was a 4-8 season, that included a 7-game losing streak to close out the season. To add insult to injury, UF lost to FCS squad Georgia Southern, the lowlight of one of the worst seasons in Florida history.
