Scott Shafer’s first year with the Syracuse Orange as Doug Marrone’s replacement went surprisingly well, especially when you consider that it was the program’s first year in the ACC.
Now, with a lot of returning talent and decent recruiting, expectations have risen for the Orange to build off their 7-6 season last year. But as the ACC continues to get better as a conference, doing that will be a lot harder this year.
The Orange have lots of experience and returning talent from last year, but the schedule is still very tough because there are simply too many teams that are above the Orange’s level right now, including Notre Dame, Clemson, and Florida State.
If the Orange are going to even reach 6 wins this year, it will have to pull of multiple upsets against teams that are Top 25 contenders this year.
