Ohio State’s title hopes took a huge hit Tuesday upon the announcement starting quarterback Braxton Miller will miss the entire 2014 season due to shoulder surgery. The exact nature of the injury was not announced but he left practice on Monday after feeling pain making a short throw. It is the same shoulder that he tore his labrum on in the Orange Bowl last January.

”My goal is to come back from this injury stronger and better than ever,” Miller said in a statement.“I love Ohio State and Buckeye nation, and my goal is to come back from this injury stronger and better than ever. I am on course to graduate in December and I want to attend graduate school, and then return to lead the Buckeyes next season.”

The injury likely means Miller will not enter the 2015 NFL Draft and will instead try to rebuild his value with a healthy 2015 at Ohio State. His statement also seems to suggest this is his early thought process when it comes to making the leap to the NFL.

Redshirt freshman J.T. Barrett will likely be the starter in the Buckeyes opener against Navy on August 30.
