Saturday Blitz SEC Power Rankings Week 3

One thing is clear: The SEC is by far the most dominant conference in college football. And this might be the toughest it’s ever been.

Right now 13 teams in the conference have legitimate expectations to reach a bowl game, eight teams are in the Top 25 while 10 believe they belong in the Top 25, and at least eight teams believe they have a legitimate shot at a national championship. As deep as the SEC has been the past 10 years, this is by far the toughest it’s ever been.

And that toughness is particularly exemplified in one division: the SEC West. Currently the top teams in the conference are all in the West, although that could change as the year goes on. But the fact that the West is by far the tougher division won’t change. With Arkansas’s win over Texas Tech, all seven teams in that division have shown that they could be Top 25 teams. Five teams in that division have become national title contenders.

The crazy part is that while the SEC West is so much tougher than the SEC East, the East is still great. Missouri, Georgia, and South Carolina are all legitimate contenders for the conference championship, and don’t sleep on Florida either. Vanderbilt is obviously terrible, but then Tennessee and Kentucky could be 7-win teams this season.

In short, this is a loaded conference. It’s unfortunate, sort of, because there are so many teams, with the exception of Vanderbilt, that could be 10-win teams anywhere else. But by the end of the year at least four coaches will be on the hot seat because their teams couldn’t make it to a bowl game.

So here are our Week 3 SEC Power Rankings. Just know as we begin our countdown that being low on this list does not allude to anything negative about that particular team. It’s simply a testament to how good the conference is.
