Saturday Blitz Top 25 Scores

Wisconsin Beats Bowling Green 68-17

Player of the Game: Melvin Gordon-13 Carries for 253 Yards, 5 Touchdowns

644 yards rushing. That’s all you need to know about this game. It’s what Wisconsin earned against Bowling Green, and it begs the question: why did they ever abandon the run against LSU?

Bowling Green was supposed to be the trendy mid-major team in the Midwest after beating Indiana last Saturday, but Wisconsin ended that talk today. The Falcons got exposed on defense, while the Badgers defense showed just how good they are.

But most importantly, Wisconsin quarterback Tanner McEvoy may finally be developing into a decent quarterback, so at least the Badgers can have a passing game. That’s where Melvin Gordon comes in. As great as he is, look at how incredible he is when defenses have to respect the pass. Gordon’s 253 yards and 5 touchdowns have vaulted him right up the Heisman talk charts.

Don’t forget that the Badgers didn’t blow the game against LSU until they stopped giving the ball to Gordon. Hopefully they’ve learned their lesson on that.

If that’s not enough proof of how loaded Wisconsin’s rushing attack is, consider that McEvoy also had 158 yards rushing and a touchdown, and the other starting running back, Corey Clement, had 111 yards and 2 touchdowns. The offense had an amazing 756 total yards of offense.

Wisconsin looks like a powerhouse that could easily win the Big Ten going into conference play. Right now, they have got to be respected.

Michigan State Beat Eastern Michigan 73-14

Player of the Game: Delton Williams- 10 Carries, 103 Yards, 3 Touchdowns

Michigan State certainly found its offensive groove after its loss to Oregon two weeks ago. But honestly, what did you expect? This is an Eastern Michigan team that gave up more than 60 points to that pathetic Florida Gators offense.

The Spartans jumped out pretty early and never looked back. Connor Cook only threw 6 passes, and what’s remarkable is the Spartans only had 19 total passes by three quarterbacks the entire game. Yet they managed to put up 73 points. Why?

That dominant rushing attack. Jeremy Langford was taken out early after 60 yards and a touchdown, Nick Hill was taken out later in the game after 58 yards and a touchdown. Then, in garbage time as Michigan State tried to run out the clock, Delton Williams made the most of his opportunity with 103 yards and 3 touchdowns on only 10 carries. Okay, to be fair,80 of those came on one play. But hey, it’s impressive for him to do that in garbage time.

The Spartans at least showed that they might be the most loaded team heading into Big Ten play.

Georgia Beat Troy 66-0

Sony Michel: 10 Carries for 155 Yards, 3 Touchdowns

Well the Dawgs appear to be over their loss to South Carolina. Hutson Mason only threw 11 passes, completing 8 of them for 97 yards and 2 touchdowns, before being taken out of the game. Todd Gurley only had 73 yards on 6 carries.

Mark Richt quickly turned the blowout over to his freshmen for garbage time. Then they turned that garbage time into a worse blowout. Sony Michel stood out with 155 yards and 3 touchdowns on only 10 carries. He looks like he has a bright future. The offense played a complete game with 547 total yards, and the defense was right there with them, only allowing 216 yards of total offense.

But don’t read too much into this. Troy is an awful team, and there is nothing to be gained from the win, no matter how bad the blowout was. However, the Dawgs are still in great position to do everything they wanted to do.

If just a couple of breaks happen (another South Carolina loss, to be exact), then Georgia is back in the mix. All they have to do is keep winning, and this is a great game to get back on track.
