Jefferson attends Itawamba Community College in Mississippi and originally signed with the Louisville Cardinals out of Banneker High School in Atlanta, Georgia.

The 6’5, 225-pound Johnson is ranked as the country’s fourth-best junior college weak-side defensive end, the 23rd-best overall junior college player in the state of Mississippi and the 65th-best overall junior college prospect in the class of 2015 according to 24/7 Sports’ composite rankings.

Jefferson loves the West Virginia coaching staff and credit them and a very talented idol of his as the reasons he committed.

“It’s a cool coaching staff and a program on the rise,” Jefferson told Chris Anderson of 24/7 Sports. “They got good players there, and one of my favorite defensive ends – Bruce Irvin – played there.”

Although he holds offers from the California Golden Bears, Kansas State Wildcats, Maryland Terrapins and Miami Hurricanes. his commitment wasn’t much of a surprise.

“They already kind of knew that I was coming up there,” he said. “But they were excited.”

Jefferson is West Virginia’s 20th verbal commitment – their class currently ranks second in the Big 12 and 18th in the country.
