Kyle Flood and the Rutgers Scarlet Knights got a key commitment from 3-Star wide receiver Freddie Simmons on Tuesday night.

Simmons was offered during a visit to Rutgers in March and has been thinking about making his pledge too. However, the California Golden Bears, Purdue Boilermakers and Virginia Cavaliers all were hot on Simmons’ trail.

“I’ve been sitting on my recruitment, thinking about every situation I had and what offers were put in front of me and made my mind up,” Simmons said via Steve Wiltfong of 24/7 Sports. “I wanted to be close to home so my friends and family could come see me play. I wanted to play in the Big Ten. Rutgers is a good team, they’re close, they play in the Big Ten, I feel they’re on the uprise. I’ve seen what they were able to do against Michigan and I think it would be a great opportunity to play for Coach (Kyle) Flood.

The 6’3, 175-pound Simmons attends Bethlehem Catholic in  Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

This is the 18th commitment for Rutgers in the class of 2015. Their class ranks 48th nationally and eighth in the Big 10.
