Duke Head Basketball Coach Mike Krzyzewski’s 1,000th win Sunday night against St. John’s is something anybody who follows any college sport can appreciate. Winning in college is much more impressive than winning in the professional ranks because everything falls on the coach.

Recruiting, teaching, developing, and coaching are all part of the coach’s job, while professional coaches’ success all depends on the situation they are in. So when we glorify great coaches, there are plenty more to celebrate in college.

Coach K’s win and his resume had us thinking about the greatest coaches of all time in every college sport. Where does Mike Krzyzewski stand in that? Is he the best? Is he even the best in his own sport?

It gets a lot more complicated than you might think.

It is hard to go by any one thing. Wins are based on the level you are at and the program you inherited. Championships vary depending on the era you coached in.
