Baylor Bears to use 410-pound LaQuan McGowan at tight end

Art Briles is planning something big for spring practice as in 410-pounds big with LaQuan McGowan lining up at tight end with the hopes of using him in nonconference games.

LaQuan McGowan caught a short touchdown in the Cotton Bowl against Michigan State last year for Baylor and it appears that playmaking ability has resulted in Art Briles giving him a shot at tight end this spring.

Briles has a reputation as one of the best offensive minds in college football, but who would have imagined the nation’s top offense of a year ago turning to a guy tipping the scales at north of four bills to add a wrinkle to the offense?!

"“We’re looking at him as kind of a slot and tight end type of guy,” Baylor coach Art Briles said, via The Waco Tribune. “He can certainly help us in the run game in those situations. The way we’re looking at it is we’ve got three games in nonconference to kind of feel it out and see what he can do and teach him what to do in live action.”"

Put yourself in the shoes of a safety, nickel back or outside linebacker who is forced to try and match up against the mountain of a main that is McGowan. Do you pray for your health? Do you come in flying and try to take out his knees? All of the above?

Could Briles be on the verge of a revolutinary change at tight end at the college level and give us more “Fat Guy Touchdowns” to drive the college football twitterverse crazy?

Check out the wheels on McGowan from the Cotton Bowl. I mean, he’s got a massive catching radius so that should help Seth Russell as he replaces Bryce Petty at quarterback.

Talk about a matchup nightmare.
