Jared Goff discusses his life at Cal where he manages a tough academic load while working to be one of the best quarterbacks in the country.

The California Golden Bears may have their greatest quarterback since Aaron Rodgers was in Berkeley more than a decade ago in the form of rising junior Jared Goff who is growing into the next great Pac-12 quarterback.

Goff experienced great personal success as a freshman in 2013 when he threw for 3,508 yards and 18 touchdowns, but there was very little team success as Cal went 1-11 in the first year under head coach Sonny Dykes.

His sophomore season saw Cal go from one win to five wins and miss playing in a bowl game by one win after Goff improved his numbers across the board. He threw for 3,973 yards on 62.1 percent passing for 35 touchdowns and only seven interceptions.

Goff was fifth in the nation in yards and touchdowns and is poised to improve on those numbers in his third year as the 6-4, 210-pound rising junior is drawing the attention of NFL scouts all while maintaining a rigorous academic workload.

You can watch Goff explain how he manages his responsibilities as a student-athlete in the video below.

I don’t think college athletes get enough credit for the work they do in the classroom, especially at renowned academic institutions like Cal, so tip of the hat to Goff for his success on and off the field.

If Cal can take the same type of leap in 2015 like they did in 2014, Goff and the Golden Bears could find themselves contending for eight-nine wins and a nice bowl game in December of January.
