Dan Mullen added to Mississippi State’s recruiting class on Monday with the addition of a four-star offensive lineman, but then things got really weird.

In what was a busy day recruiting-wise for teams across the country, Mississippi State was no exception. On Monday, four-star 2016 offensive tackle Scott Lashley (West Point, MS. West Point) committed to the program. He made the announcement via Twitter Monday night, simply but effectively.

Lashley is the No. 77 overall player in his class, the No. 10 overall offensive tackle in his class, and the No. 4 overall player in his class from the state of Mississippi per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

He received interest from around the country and several SEC teams were vying for his services. Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Georgia, Ole Miss, South Carolina, and Tennessee all offered a scholarship, but in the end, it was the Bulldogs who won the proverbial “bidding war” for his services.

At least for a few hours anyway.

Hours after committing, Lashley backed off his pledge.

Running game coordinator/offensive line coach John Hevesy was the man responsible for bringing the talented tackle to the program (temporarily) for the Bulldogs, this would have been the third four-star commit in the 2016 class. Lashley joined fellow offensive tackle Tommy Champion and athlete Cameron Myers with the distinction, but now he’s on the open market after admitting he made a decision too soon.

The Bulldogs ’16 class moved up to No. 18 in the country and No. 8 in the SEC.
