Texas picked up the commitment from offensive lineman Tope Imade to add to Charlie Strong’s 2016 recruiting class for the Longhorns.

Charlie Strong and Texas got their first commitment in more than three months on Tuesday with the verbal commitment from three-star offensive guard Tobe Imade (Arlington, TX. Bowie) who became the fifth commitment for the 2016 class.

Imade is 6-4.5, 327 pounds and the nation’s No. 949 recruit overall regardless of position, No. 44 guard and the No. 121 recruit in the state of Texas, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

He picked Texas over offers from the likes of Michigan, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, TCU, Baylor and Miami but the Longhorns moved to the top of his wish list after visiting the 40 Acres for the team’s spring game in April.

Imade would later pick up the offer from Texas when offensive line coach Joe Wickline saw him in practice on May 21 and he didn’t need much time to consider his other options and committed to the Horns five days later.

“I talked to my dad about it, and we decided to go with Texas,” Imade told Horns247. “They didn’t have any offensive line commits, so I thought it would be great if I could be their first one.

“The coaches showed they really wanted me, and my former teammate Edwin Freeman was in my ear about it too. Even Shane sent me some messages on Twitter. It just felt right.”

Imade is the first offensive lineman to commit for this year’s class, but he certainly won’t be the last considering how the unit is a priority for Strong, so his commitment should give Texas some much-needed momentum headed in the summer months.

With today’s commitment of Imade, Texas now has the nation’s No. 37 ranked recruiting class and the No. 4 class in the Big 12, according to the 247Sports team rankings.
