Shawn Robinson, a five-star 2017 quarterback committed to TCU Friday, giving the program the ability to stockpile more firepower on offense.

TCU picked up a big commitment Friday as 2017 five-star quarterback Shawn Robinson (Denton, TX . Guyer) gave his pledge to the program. He made an announcement via Twitter earlier Friday evening.

Robinson is the No. 10 player in his class, the top dual-threat quarterback, and the No. 2 player in the Lone Star State per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Sonny Cumble, who doubles as the Horned Frogs co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach handled Robinson’s recruitment. The quarterback accumulated 14 offers in total including several from the Big 12. In that regard, Baylor, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Texas extended offers in addition to TCU.

With Robinson in the fold, TCU’s 2017 class now carries three commitments. In addition to Robinson, four-star offensive guard Wes Harris and athlete Roshauud Paul also will be coming to Fort Worth. That is good enough for No. 5 in the country and is tops in the Big 12 per the 247Sports team rankings.

Last season Robinson performed well for Guyer as he threw for 2,799 yards, 33 touchdowns, and five interceptions. He also showed what he was capable of on the ground as he rushed for 1,416 yards and 17 touchdowns.

After watching his highlights, I noticed Robinson was effective on option plays, doing a great job of selling the fake to the running back. He was particularly dangerous when he bounced to the outside, following his blockers to gain extra yards.

He had tremendous touch and great field sense, meaning that he did a great job of sensing pressure and getting rid of the ball. When pressure did find its way to Robinson, he adjusted on the fly, scrambling out of the pocket and making something out of nothing.

With Trevone Boykin having tremendous success through the air last year in the Doug Meacham-Sonny Cumbie can bet that had a tremendous impact on Robinson’s decision to pick TCU over his list of suitors. Now that he’s committed he can turn his attention to recruiting talented wide receivers and offensive linemen to make his job easier.
