Who are the most important players to watch in Jim Harbaugh’s first season as the head coach of the Michigan Wolverines?

Michigan had a 2014 season to forget. After going 5-7 and being embroiled in controversies ranging widely from not observing concussion protocol to promotions giving away free tickets with the purchase of two bottles of Coke, coach Brady Hoke was mercifully fired and replaced by Jim Harbaugh.

More from Big Ten

The 2015 season will probably be a year of growing pains. Harbaugh is a hard-nosed coach, which is a change of pace from the players-coach that Hoke was widely thought to be.

But the roster needs an infusion of talent and a couple of top-10 classes before they will be in position to compete on an annual basis for Big Ten and eventually national championships.

However, with a somewhat softer schedule this year than last, and games against both Michigan State and Ohio State at home, there is some reason for optimism even in the short term.

It’s hard to know just what to expect from the team as a whole, but there are five players that Michigan needs to break out and produce this season if they hope to return to the top of the Big Ten.
