In what has come as a bit of a surprise to Oregon Ducks fans, 2016 four-star wide receiver Theo Howard (Thousand Oaks, CA. Westlake) decommitted from Oregon Sunday.

Howard is the No. 111 player in the class, the No. 16 wide receiver, and the No. 17 player from the state of California per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Notching 18 offers in total, he was recruited by Matt Lubick, who doubles as Oregon’s passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach. This decommitment was a surprise because Howard was one of the program’s most vocal recruiters.

With this decommitment, Oregon now stands at No. 19 in the country and No. 4 in the Pac-12 per the 247Sports Team Rankings. The ’16 class has done well in California as there are now seven players from the state in the class.

Where will he go? My prediction is that he will end up a USC Trojan. They already boast a deep and talented 2016 class that includes wide receivers Josh Imatorbhebhe and Trevon Sidney and the addition of Howard would make a triple threat. This would certainly give the Trojans one of the most potent offenses in the country, and allow them to open up their passing game.

Although this is not necessarily the end of the world for the Ducks, it does give them a big hole to fill at the wide receiver position. He will not be easy to replace, but it will be a good test to see how the program can make up for the loss.
