The Group of Five has a wide selection of strong teams vying for the top spot on this list. Most of the teams are from one conference, which has a significant advantage over other Group of Five conferences.

Not a lot was shaken up this week for the group of five teams, but several teams are making ground and strengthening their positions, while others are faltering a bit. Conference play is underway, and several teams on the list have already played each other, or will play each other in coming weeks. As for now, a handful of teams can make a case for being number one here.

The American Athletic Conference is the strongest of the Non-Power Five conferences, which shows as six of the top ten teams come from it. A number of teams are undefeated from the G5, including four from the said AAC. But several talented one and two loss teams are also lurking. 3-2 Cincinnati is a good example of the number of talented teams in the group of five. The Bearcats pulled off a big win against Miami while playing a backup quarterback last week. It’ll be exciting to see what the elite group of five teams do this season.

Of course, the AAC is going against Boise State, who has been the top Non Power Five team for much of the last decade. This year doesn’t look to be different, as the Broncos should continue the rest of the way without losing a second game. However, if the AAC champ is undefeated, then that team should end up as the favorite Non Power Five and perhaps sneak into the Playoff.

Other teams that are receiving consideration for the top 10 include Ohio, Bowling Green and Southern Mississippi. Ohio won their contest at Akron 14-12 and wasn’t impressive enough to keep ECU and Cincinnati from taking their spot.
