Houston head coach Tom Herman withdrew from consideration for the South Carolina head coaching vacancy.

For those hoping to see Houston head coach Tom Herman patrolling South Carolina’s sidelines next season, I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Herman has withdrawn his name from consideration for the job per a report from Pat Forde of Yahoo Sports, a week after the program approved a $3 million raise for the first-year head coach who is 10-1. He had been the top choice to replace Steve Spurrier according to multiple reports, and there had been much discussion in regard to how to make this happen.

Herman has built himself quite a resume in his coaching career to this point, even within the last year. After winning a national championship as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes this past January, he was the recipient of the Broyles Award, given to the best assistant coach in college football.

Since being named Houston’s head football coach in December, his hard work has continued to pay off. He has secured many victories on the recruiting trail in addition to leading the Coogs to a 10-1 record, so the future looks bright for Herman. And it looks like that future will continue at Houston for Herman, well for at least one more year or until the Texas Longhorns job opens that is.
