Clemson Tigers quarterback Deshaun Watson is on the cover of Sports Illustrated’s College Football Playoff preview edition.

It’s been a great week at the end of a great year for Clemson sophomore quarterback Deshaun Watson.

On Saturday, Watson led Clemson to a win over the North Carolina Tar Heels to cap an undefeated season with an ACC Championship. On Sunday, Watson and Clemson secured the No. 1 seed in the College Football Playoff and will play the Oklahoma Sooners on New Year’s Eve in the Orange Bowl.

On Monday, Watson was named one of three Heisman finalists, along with Alabama Crimson Tide running back Derrick Henry and Stanford Cardinal all-purpose back Christian McCaffrey.

And on Tuesday, Watson is on the cover of Sports Illustrated’s College Football Playoff preview edition.

Not a bad four-day span, huh?

Watson threw for 3,521 yards and 30 touchdowns in his first full season as the Clemson starter after starting his freshman season behind Cole Stoudt before winning the job from him, but battled injuries throughout his freshman campaign.

He’s been completely healthy this year and the ACC and college football fans have been able to see the former blue chip recruit begin to live up to his lofty potential, but his passing numbers only tell part of the story for Watson who also leads Clemson in rushing with 887 yards and 11 touchdowns.

His most important stat, however, is the zero in the loss column. Sports Illustrated’s Pete Thamel writes about Watson making Clemson the team to beat in the second College Football Playoff.
