Murray signed a financial aid agreement with the program and will join the Sooners’ football program in the spring semester per a press release from the program. Murray will have to sit out the 2016 season but will be eligible to run the Oklahoma scout team before competing for the starting job in 2017.

This follows the path taken by Oklahoma starting quarterback Baker Mayfield who transferred from Texas Tech after his freshman season, ran the scout team offense when he was ineligible and was a Heisman contender for the Big 12 champs in his first eligible year.

Murray played eight games for the Aggies as a freshman, three of them as a starter. He had 686 passing yards and 335 rushing yards and completed 59.5 percent of his passes. He had five touchdowns and seven interceptions.

“We’re very happy to welcome Kyler to our program and we look forward to working with him,” said Stoops, the 2015 Big 12 Coach of the Year.

Texas and Oregon were two programs many believed would show interest in Murray when he announced his transfer, but neither program really did, and it was thought Murray could go the JUCO route and play baseball and declare for the MLB Draft.

He bypassed the MLB Draft out of high school to play both sports at Texas A&M.

Murray’s former teammate at Texas A&M, Kyle Allen, was talking with Oklahoma after he announced a few days before Murray that he was also transferring. This should end that pursuit for him as Allen could potentially end up at Houston or Nebraska.
