Charlie Strong and the Texas football team got some good news on the eve of National Signing Day with the commitment of four-star running back Kyle Porter.

The Texas Longhorns hope to have a strong finish on National Signing Day with several top uncommitted targets expected to pick the Horns to give Charlie Strong hope for a better tomorrow. Helping that cause was four-star running back Kyle Porter (Katy, TX. Katy) who gave his verbal commitment to the program on Tuesday.

The 5-11, 208-pound Porter helped lead Katy to the state championship as a senior and took official visits to TCU, Arkansas the last three weekends in January and had interest from Oregon, Tennessee, LSU and Wisconsin among his dozen scholarship offers.

Porter is the nation’s No. 272 overall recruit, No. 11 running back and the No. 42 recruit in the state of Texas, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Porter is the fifth-highest ranked recruit in Strong’s 2016 class and the only running back.

The U.S. Army All-American will compete for early playing time as a true freshman after rushing for 1,938 yards and 36 touchdowns last year as a senior for Katy.

With the commitment of Porter, Texas currently has the nation’s No. 25 class and the No. 4 class in the Big 12, according to the 247Sports Team Rankings.
