The LSU Tigers added to the nation’s top recruiting class with the signing of five-star cornerback Kristian Fulton on National Signing Day.

Rarely does the LSU football team lose an in-state recruit they want to bring to Baton Rouge and the top recruit target for Les Miles on National Signing Day was Metairie, LA. native and Archbishop Rummel standout cornerback Kristian Fulton.

The nation’s No. 21 overall recruit, No. 2 cornerback and the prospect in the state of Louisiana, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings was set to decide between the Florida Gators and LSU and Miles and the Tigers didn’t let him leave the state as LSU received his commitment.

The 6-0, 177-pound cornerback also had the Arkansas Razorbacks in his final group but the Under Armour All-American stays with the home state program that prides itself on being ‘DBU’ or Defensive Back University.

Fulton joins the top-ranked class in the nation, according to the 247Sports Team Rankings and a class with the most ESPN300 recruits of all-time. He also joins fellow cornerbacks Saivion Smith and Andraez Williams who rank as the No. 5 and No. 20 players at their position, respectively. Fulton is the highest-ranked recruit in the LSU class whose top six commits are on the defensive side of the ball.

With Fulton on one side and last year’s top recruit Kevin Tolliver, the Bayou Bengals could have the best pair of cornerbacks in the SEC and the entire nation in two years.

Fulton had 58 tackles and six interceptions last year as a senior en route to earning All-American honors.

LSU is hopeful this year’s recruiting class will help Miles and Heisman contender Leonard Fournette close the gap on Alabama in the SEC West and compete for the SEC Championship in 2016.
