With the 2016 college football season on the way, it’s clear there are some teams and fan bases with high expectations who should start thinking about 2017.

One thing about college football – with ever changing personnel and coaching staffs, it’s always a “next year will be our year” offseason, no matter which team of which you are a fan. Unfortunately, that’s just not going to be the case for some programs in 2016.

There are teams who have made big changes, taken some steps in the right direction or have completely retooled themselves, but it’s not quite going to be enough for this season. 2017 could be a different story.

That’s not to say that these programs won’t be good or have winning seasons, it’s just that the expectations of the fans (and even the players themselves) probably far exceed what will actually transpire this season. Then again, some of them could completely crash and burn.

The good news is that all the teams on this list have really got a lot of pieces in place, and by 2017 they could be looking at some serious championship runs.

Here are 10 teams who should probably start looking towards 2017 instead of pinning their hopes to a resurgence this season.
