Former Mississippi State Bulldogs quarterback Dak Prescott was arrested for a DUI in Starkville after working out for 30 NFL teams the day earlier.

Dak Prescott was viewed as a second or third round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft after a record-breaking career at Mississippi State after throwing in front of 30 NFL teams on Thursday at Mississippi State’s pro day.

Prescott is arguably the best player in program history after leading the Bulldogs to the No. 1 ranking for the first time last year and holds every passing record to add to his case as an NFL prospect. He also displayed the great intangibles, leadership and great character teams need from the quarterback position.

One day after the pro day, Prescott was arrested early Saturday morning near the Cotton district in Starkville, according to the Clarion-Ledger for driving under the influence. He was driving after his 2016 white Cadillac Escalade according to the report.

This will raise questions for teams who had Prescott on their radar as a potential second or third round pick. The Dallas Cowboys have been linked to Prescott as a potential successor to Tony Romo and would signal the Cowboys would pass on a quarterback with the fourth overall pick.

It’s never a good time to be arrested for driving under the influence but it’s especially not good to get a DUI seven weeks before the NFL Draft.

The timing has to be considered here because this is the time when Prescott has to be on perfect behavior because a simple speeding ticket could be considered a red flag or character concern.

He’s not the only person in this class with a DUI in his background but his will likely hurt him more than if it happened before his senior year.

If he was a second or third round pick before the DUI, he could be a fourth or fifth-round pick now because of this arrest. The best thing Prescott had going for him was the resiliency and great character he’s displayed since he came to Starkville five years ago.

With one mistake he’s crushed his NFL Draft stock.

This mistake will cost him millions of dollars in his first contract and more in terms of his reputation.
