LSU running back Leonard Fournette passed Clemson Tigers quarterback Deshaun Watson as the betting favorite after Bovada released their latest odds.
The Tigers running back who may run for more than 2,000 yards and have Les Miles’ team competing for an SEC West division title was getting 5/1 odds compared to Watson’s 9/2 odds when the season ended last January. However, Fournette is now getting the 9/2 odds and Watson is getting the 5/1 odds.
Stanford Cardinal all-purpose running back Christian McCaffrey was the runner-up to Derrick Henry for the Heisman last year and received the same 5/1 odds as Fournette on January 19, but he’s now in third position with 11/2 odds to round out the top three betting favorites.
J.T. Barrett, Dalvin Cook, and Baker Mayfield are in a three-way tie after them with 12/1 odds. If you’re looking to win some money by placing a bet on who ends up winning, these three could offer the most reward as opposed to going with the top three betting favorites.
Nick Chubb, Chad Kelly and UCLA sophomore quarterback Josh Rosen who makes the biggest move up since January when he was off the board are all receiving 16/1 odds. Royce Freeman and Alabama running back Bo Scarborough who was also off the board in January are getting 20/1 odds.
If you’re looking for a longshot who could deliver a huge payout, look at Patrick Mahomes, Trevor Knight and Lamar Jackson who are all receiving 50/1 odds.

Putting $20 down on Jackson could be an intriguing play after he ended his freshman season with 200 yards passing and 200 yards rushing in Louisville’s bowl game last year. That feat has only been accomplished by Johnny Manziel and Vince Young, so that’s pretty good company for Jackson to be in and if he finds a way to get the Cardinals in the ACC Championship Game, he could contend.
