LSU Tigers wide receiver Travin Dural let himself go in the offseason and spend too much time in the drive-thru at Popeyes and that’s his reason for his weight gain.

Expectations are high for the LSU Tigers this season who rank fifth in the Amway Coaches Poll, but expectations may have to be lowered because of one player’s fondness for fast food.

It’s no secret college students don’t have the best diets when they leave home and college meal plans make it easy to stop by the local sandwich shop or fast food joint. That seems to be the case for LSU receiver Travin Dural who was laid up after injuring his hamstring last November and his inactivity combined with plenty of Popeyes resulted in him packing on the pounds.

“Yeah, Popeyes was putting a lot of weight on me,” Dural said, via Glenn Guilbeau of the USA Today network, via WWLTV.com. “I went home one day, and my mom was like, ‘Man, you look stuffed.’ So, that’s when I knew it was time for change. I was almost 230 pounds in the spring and I played at 203 last year.”

Dural isn’t the first person to develop poor eating habits and he won’t be the last but he did hear plenty of jokes about his new spare tire from his coaches.

“And Coach [Cam] Cameron made a couple of jokes about it,” Dural said, per Guilbeau. “I didn’t like the [lining him up at] fullback and tight end jokes, so I knew I had to slim down. I had to stay away from Popeyes. Oh man, I tried to do a no-meat diet, but that failed miserably. That failed miserably in like two days.”

The good thing for LSU fans is Dural has cut out Popeyes and replaced their delicious fried chicken and sides with nutritious salads and by drinking more water.

Dural had 28 receptions for 533 yards and three touchdowns last season as a junior. If he can help LSU win the SEC Championship Game, I hope Popeyes will supply the food for the players to eat after the game.
