College football is back and here are five bold predictions for the opening weekend, including a pair of shocking upset picks.

Finally, college football is back and with a vengeance. This weekend not only marks the start of the season for most teams but sets the tone for the months to come.

As a general note, FBS teams have been known to fluff their schedule during the first few weeks of the season. In particular, the SEC has taken most of the blame for the lack of challenging opponents in the past.

Well, this year no one can say that the SEC or larger FBS teams failed to schedule tough games. The weekend of college football ahead of us is unprecedented. Take a look, then see if my bold predictions could come to fruition.

Marquee Games:

  • LSU vs. Wisconsin
  • Texas A&M vs. UCLA
  • Auburn vs. Clemson
  • USC vs. Alabama
  • Oklahoma vs. Houston
  • Ole Miss vs. Florida State

I don’t think anyone can criticize these massive programs. They actively went in search of quality opponents, and some teams might have even bitten off more than they can chew. But that’s okay, a challenge brings out the best in teams and players alike. This first week of college football might be the best opening weekend in history.

The FBS decided to step up to the plate and compete with one another. While we have no idea which teams will come out strong, there will be surprises and unforeseen circumstances. Whether it’s your team scoring upwards of 50, an upset, or the opponent throwing five touchdowns, there will be stunning moments.

Here are five bold predictions for the opening weekend of college football.
