Texas Longhorns freshman quarterback Shane Buechele showed off his arm with a bomb to John Burt for a touchdown against Notre Dame.

There were plenty of questions as to whether or not freshman quarterback Shane Buechele could be the answer for the Texas Longhorns. Those questions were answered on Saturday night against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish with some pretty amazing throws.

Buechele was looking solid in his first career start, but he really showed off his arm in the second half. Two plays into the opening drive of the half, Buechele looked deep and threw a deep pass to Longhorns receiver John Burt.

Somehow, Buechele was able to hit Burt in stride so that he could take off for a 72-yard touchdown. The score put Texas up 28-14, and the Longhorns fans were going crazy at Texas Memorial Stadium. You can check out the bomb from Buechele in the Twitter video below.

Buechele wasn’t the top recruit coming out of high school, but he was still a strong prospect for the Longhorns. He looked fantastic early on against Notre Dame, picking up three total touchdowns in a little over one half of football.

Expectations are always high for Texas, but they have struggled to win games the past couple of seasons under head coach Charlie Strong. However, with a statement outing against a top 10 team and a quarterback with a rocket arm like Buechele has, the Longhorns might finally be back and ready to make a run on a national stage.
