Texas opened the 2016 season with a major statement. Charlie Strong’s Longhorns have been criticized heavily over the past couple of seasons, but now that his players are in place, it looks like Texas is back to its winning ways. Taking down No. 10 Notre Dame at home to open the season was a solid start.

Freshman quarterback Shane Buechele has been phenomenal through two games, passing for 524 yards and six touchdowns while completing about 72 percent of his passes. John Burt has been his favorite target, catching eight passes for 139 yards and a score, but former dual-threat QB Jerrod Heard has put in work as well, catching eight passes for 119 yards and two touchdowns.

Tyrone Swoopes, the backup quarterback, was the hero of Week 1, scoring three touchdowns this season on the ground.

California hasn’t had the best luck to start the year. Outside of beating Hawaii in the season’s first game in Australia, the Golden Bears lost to San Diego State in a Week 2 road contest. The offense isn’t the issue for Cal, though, it’s the defense that can’t stop anyone.

Texas Tech transfer Davis Webb is one of the nation’s top passers, racking up an incredible 963 yards and nine touchdowns with three picks. Junior receiver Chad Hansen has been a monster thus far, catching 28 passes for 350 yards and three touchdowns.

A name to keep an eye on is Demetris Robertson, a talented freshman for the Golden Bears who has six catches for 93 yards and a touchdown.
