No. 3 Louisville has been a juggernaut in the early going. They dispatched Florida State with relative ease. That makes Marshall seem like a glorified exhibition on a bye week. Trap Game?

Louisville has arguably the most impressive resume of any team to this point. They are currently ranked third in the AP Poll and fourth in the coaches poll. The Cardinals are coming off the most impressive victory of the season, an absolute domination of Florida State. They have the clear Heisman frontrunner.

Marshall is 1-1 and gave up 65 points against the Akron Zips last week. So on paper, this game should be a blowout that’s over by halftime.

But what if it wasn’t?

This is a classic trap game scenario. Louisville is coming off one of the biggest wins in school history, so they are primed for a letdown. With Clemson’s win over Georgia Tech on Thursday night, the game of the year  is lined up for next week in Death Valley between the Cardinals and Tigers. College GameDay has already announced they are going. There is no way Petrino can keep his college kids’ heads from wandering to that game. Marshall and its fans will be fired up. An upset will make their season.

However, Marshall just doesn’t have the talent to take advantage of this favorable spot. The Thundering Herd will have no answer for Cardinals sophomore dynamo Lamar Jackson.

Vegas seems to agree. They opened Louisville as an 18-point favorite. The line is now pushing 30 in some places.
