The Central Florida Knights got creative on Saturday against the South Florida Bulls with a 72-yard touchdown on a halfback option pass.

With Rivalry Week taking place on Saturday, there were all kinds of big games to be played. The Central Florida Knights and South Florida Bulls didn’t have the most highly-anticipated matchup on Saturday, but that didn’t stop them from producing some highlight plays.

Things were already getting out of hand for the Knights in the second quarter, trailing 24-7 early on. However, UCF decided to pull out a trick play to try and cut into the lead.

Early in the second quarter, quarterback McKenzie Milton handed the ball off to his running back, who then flipped the ball to wide receiver Tristan Payton on a reverse. Rather than running the ball, Payton lined up and threw a bomb deep to teammate Tre’Quan Smith, who then took the pass the rest of the way for a 72-yard touchdown.

You can watch a video of the exciting trick play from the Knights below.

The Knights came into Saturday’s game as serious underdogs given their 6-5 record and the Bulls’ 9-2 season. Unfortunately for Central Florida, they weren’t able to do much outside of that exciting trick play touchdown and trailed heading into the locker room at halftime down 24-14.

On the bright side, the Knights should still be heading to a bowl game with six wins, but an upset win over the Bulls could help them get into a much more reputable game against a stronger opponent.
