Here’s how you can watch the St. Petersburg Bowl online live from Tropicana Field between Miami of Ohio and Mississippi State on December 26.

The Miami RedHawks had a tale of two halves over the course of 2016. The MAC East runner-up lost its first six games of the season, including to an Eastern Illinois team that didn’t even make the FCS playoffs. Yet after opening conference play with losses to Ohio and Akron, the switch flipped for Miami of Ohio. The defense tightened up, allowing just 19.3 points per game as the RedHawks pulled off a six-game winning streak that made them eligible for the St. Petersburg Bowl.

Mississippi State, just like Miami of Ohio, is lucky to be headed to Florida for an extra game. The Bulldogs finished the year 5-7 and only made the postseason thanks to the lack of .500 teams and their high academic progress rate. Dan Mullen’s team can’t blame SEC play alone for their downturn, as they also lost to South Alabama and BYU in non-conference play. Nick Fitzgerald came on late in the season at quarterback, but this is a team that still struggles to keep pace.

Both the RedHawks and the Bulldogs allow more points than they score and bring a combined 11-13 record to Tropicana Field on Boxing Day. It’s not the most glamorous way to celebrate a 10th anniversary, but this has been a close bowl game over the past few seasons and should be interesting again. Here is how you can watch the St. Petersburg Bowl online.

Key Matchup to Watch: This is a game of strength versus strength and weakness versus weakness. Miami’s offense has underperformed, while Mississippi State’s defense has been generous all year. The RedHawks have survived by remaining stout on defense, and their survival will depend on the defense once again. Miami will be challenged by Fitzgerald and the dual-threat capabilities he brings to the table.
