Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback J.T. Barrett announced on social media that he will return to college for his senior season.

There are few players in college football as polarizing as Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback J.T. Barrett. Although Barrett has broken career records at Ohio State and has had plenty of success during his time with the Buckeyes, critics continue to point out the flaws in his game.

Barrett will now at least have one more season to continue to improve upon his weaknesses. With one more year of eligibility left, Barrett announced on Wednesday that he will be returning to Ohio State for his senior season to try and bring the Buckeyes another national championship.

The announcement comes just after fellow teammates like safety Malik Hooker and linebacker Raekwon McMillan announced their decisions to enter the 2017 NFL draft. However, after their 31-0 loss to Clemson in the College Football Playoff, Barrett decided that there was still work to be done in Columbus.

You can see Barrett’s announcement he made over Twitter below.

Barrett finished the 2016 season with solid numbers, throwing for 2,555 yards, 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions while adding another 845 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground. Despite the solid season overall, Barrett struggled mightily against Clemson, going just 19-of-33 with 127 yards and two interceptions in the blowout.

Even though this was a weak class of quarterbacks for the 2017 NFL draft, Barrett wasn’t a guarantee to get drafted if he had decided to go pro. He’s still developing as a pocket passer, and that’s likely a big reason why he decided to stay another year at Ohio State.

After such a strong season in the Big Ten, Barrett will be looking to bring the Buckeyes back to the College Football Playoff next year. If he can improve as a passer this offseason, the Buckeyes will have a legitimate chance at coming back.
