Did Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh overstep his boundaries when speaking to 2017 recruit Jake Allen?

Jim Harbaugh has pulled off an impressive turnaround with Michigan football in just a couple of years. After Brady Hoke and Rich Rodriguez sunk the Wolverines, he found a way to turn things around and put Michigan back on the right track.

Moreover, his recruiting pitches have won over some of the top talent in the country. Unfortunately, it didn’t work for 2017 Florida commit Jake Allen.

According to Zach Alboverdi of SEC Country, Allen had an awkward encounter with Michigan’s head coach at a camp.

"“I was at a Michigan camp and talking with a couple other quarterbacks. We were all talking about our grades. I was messing around and said, ‘I got a C in third grade.’ Jim Harbaugh overheard and screams, ‘I don’t give a s–t about your grades.’ Then he realized I was part of the quarterback group that had recruits in it so he just kind of walked away. It was weird. I couldn’t wait to get out of there after that, and we left early.”"

Allen went on to say that Harbaugh rubbed him the wrong way and was one of the coaches who he thought was the toughest to get along with.

While this is just one extreme case, it’s not a good look for Harbaugh. He’s one of the best coaches in the country and he preaches education, especially while coaching at a world-class institution, so for him to tell a recruit that he doesn’t care about his grades is a bit eye-opening.

It won’t hurt the Wolverines’ recruiting any time soon, but it’s situations like these that have rubbed people the wrong way. He knows how to win, but Harbaugh is definitely not for everyone.
