Ohio State football has landed the nation’s No. 1 tight end in the 2018 class, Jeremy Ruckert, on Monday.

Urban Meyer has been criticized heavily for his use, or lack thereof, of tight ends during his time with Ohio State football. However, that didn’t stop him from landing the nation’s top tight end in the 2018 class, Jeremy Ruckert, on Monday afternoon.

The Buckeyes have been no strangers in reeling in five-star recruits and Ruckert is just the latest example of why Meyer has been tough for coaches like Jim Harbaugh, James Franklin and Mark Dantonio to overcome in the Big Ten — although Dantonio has beaten him twice, the most of any Big Ten coach.

Ruckert announced his commitment via a Bleacher Report video that is arguably one of the most unique of any you’ll see. Just watch:

Not many recruits put out commitment videos, especially depicting themselves in a go-kart race against the finalists. He beat out each school and revealed himself wearing an Ohio State shirt at the end of the video. Not many are shocked by the commitment.

The Lindenhurst, N.Y., native is Ohio State’s 15th in the 2018 class as he becomes the Buckeyes’ third five-star pledge — depending on if you’re looking at 247 rankings. He’s one of the biggest game-changers at the position in recent years and could be a main reason as to why Meyer changes his views on tight end usage.

Ruckert stands about 6-foot-6, weighing in at 238 pounds. Many call him a matchup nightmare and he could be more of a receiving tight end than anything Meyer has had at Ohio State.

Ohio State beat out Michigan, Notre Dame and Wisconsin for his commitment. He’s ranked the No. 1 tight end and 11th-best overall prospect in the class, according to 247Sports. Big-time win for the Buckeyes.
