Notre Dame football took care of business Saturday, moving to 8-0 on the season following a 44-22 win over Navy. What did we learn about the Irish?

The Irish have had their fair share of ups and downs this season, but the downs have been few and far between since the emergence of quarterback Ian Book. Given the underwhelming play of Navy’s defense up to this point in the season, the pressure was on Book to put forth a strong performance after struggling at points against Pitt.

Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly knew what to expect from Navy’s triple option offense, but simply knowing your opponent’s offense doesn’t guarantee success. Kelly had faced the Midshipmen eight times prior to this contest, taking home the win in six of those eight games. However, history doesn’t guarantee success when it comes to a matchup between these two programs.

Nevertheless, Kelly and his Irish squad tempered the storm and fought through yet another Navy upset bid. Here are three takeaways from Notre Dame’s latest win over one of their most historic rivals.
