20. Arizona State Sun Devils, 10-3 (6-3)

Last Game: Defeated Duke Blue Devils 36-31 in the Sun Bowl

The Arizona State Sun Devils were able to join a large number of teams that were still in the College Football Playoff race deep into November this past year, and Todd Graham appears to clearly have this team poised to be consistently relevant in Pac-12 play. But in a way, the Sun Devils were lucky to be here.

It took the Duke bowl game curse to finish 10-3, and they did have that lucky Hail Mary against USC. This team easily could have been 8-5, and it’s also hard to overlook the loss to in-state rival Arizona. Still, 10-3 in a Power Five conference is enough to be in the Top 20 this year, and the Sun Devils did that.

A Sun Bowl victory helped vault them to that point, and at 10-3 with the prospect of no quarterback controversy next year, things could possibly get much better. In general, 10-3 is particularly impressive in the Pac-12 South.
