Georgia Bulldogs: Wide Receiver
The Bulldogs have a several positions to fill this season but none more than the wide receiver position. Chris Conley has graduated and just destroyed the NFL Combine leaving several scouts speechless.
Not only did Conley leave, but four-year contributor and the team’s second leading receiver Michael Bennett has also graduated. Brian Schottenheimer who is serving in his first year as offensive coordinator will need to rely on new talent to step up and compete.
The logical man to step up and fill the void is Malcolm Mitchell who was beaten up last season but managed to haul in 31 receptions for nearly 250-yards. He will look to receive many more targets if he can stay healthy.
Guys like Reggie Davis, Justin Scott-Wesley, Shakenneth Williams, and my personal favorite prospect Isaiah McKensie will vie for the number two position on the depth chart.
Reggie Davis may be the frontrunner in the logjam of the receivers mentioned above. The speedy receiver has all the intangibles you look for in a playmaker, he just needs to put them together. Davis managed only six catches in his sophomore season, so it will be vital that he shows his new offensive coordinator he can make more plays.
The wide receiver I am excited to see more of is McKensie. Labeled, “The Human Joystick” McKensie has a ton of talent to become something special. He proved a valuable asset as a returner, taking an opening kickoff for a touchdown against Kentucky then a punt for a touchdown later in the game.
He also returned a punt against Troy for a touchdown. Here is to hoping he makes an impact on the offensive side of the ball and not just special team in 2015.
My Prediction: Malcolm Mitchell easily grabs the Number 1 spot and Reggie Davis slips into the Number 2 role.
