5. Can Wayne Gallman carry the load at RB?
Last season Wayne Gallman was the feature back for Clemson and their read option offense. Gallman rewarded the Tigers faith in him with 769 rushing yards and four touchdowns in what was his freshman year.
This season Gallman should be getting even more touches in the Tigers offense with even more expected of him. The most impressive thing about Gallman is that he stepped up to take on the lead back role on a team that is going to compete for national titles, didn’t look overmatched and showed the skillset that makes backs special.
There will be no excuse for him this year though as he is a year older, no longer a freshman, and has had a whole offseason of knowing he will be the lead back once again. He also will be expected to take on more carries and improve his pass catching to help take some of the load off Watson and the Tigers offensive line.
This game will be important judging his progress catching the ball out of the backfield and his endurance. Will he make it to the top of the ACC in the first tier of backs? This could be a big indicator for what is to come.
