5. Will Pat Narduzzi be able to improve the defense?

This one should be clear in the spring game just by the energy the players have, the scheme they play in and the amount of bodies they rotate in and out, as well as the ones who looks like they belong.

Narduzzi is known for his skills of turning defenses into very good run stuffing units, developing cornerbacks and getting an interior push from defensive lineman on passing plays. When looking at the Panther’s defense there are some players to like, specifically Rori Blair, who played defensive end last season despite weighing just 230 lbs. However Blair led the team in sacks with five and got more hurries than that.

This defense should be good for Blair who will get to rush from different spots on the defense, while also dropping in coverage some, leaving the offense guessing. Blair was also only a freshman last season meaning he has room to add weight and grow into his role. He should expand his sack numbers to eight and potentially 10.

The linebackers lose a lot of depth, but they should be fine and the secondary will be able to hold their own. This game will show how far the defense has come under Narduzzi, as learning a new scheme can be tough for some players.
