Dak Prescott was a Heisman Trophy contender for much of the season until the Bulldogs struggled in the final month of the year. In fact, he was the likely front-runner in the middle of the season after ripping off wins against LSU, Texas A&M and Auburn, but as we all know they don’t hand the Trophy out in October.

He could have entered the NFL Draft and if he fared well in the pre-draft process could have been an intriguing mid-round pick, but he returned to Starkville to finish what he started and try to take Mississippi State to the SEC Championship Game for the first time since 1998.

Prescott completed 61.6 percent of his passes for 3,449 yards with 27 touchdowns to 11 interceptions and added 986 rushing yards and a team-high 14 touchdowns on the ground. He even added a 24-yard receiving touchdown as he showed he can do it all. What I loved about his performance last year was how clutch he was in the second half against LSU and how he was able to shake off a poor decision or turnover against Auburn and get the win.

He will begin the season on the short list for preseason Heisman contenders and if he has a season like he had in 2014 and leads his team to the number of marquee wins like they had last year, he could be the first Heisman winner in the history of the program.
