Run game should be explosive

Jalen Hurd had a really nice freshman season when he rushed for a team-high 899 yards on 190 carries for a 4.7 yards per carry average and five touchdowns and should be among the SEC’s leading rushers behind Nick Chubb and Leonard Fournette with a 1,200-yard season easily within his reach.

Fortunately, the Vols won’t have to rely so heavily on Hurd this year with the addition of JUCO transfer Alvin Kamara who had 10 carries for 19 yards and scored the game’s first touchdown. Don’t be disappointed too much by the stats, but look at his skill-set and what he can do on the field. He is the perfect complement to the 220-pound Hurd and should give Tennessee a nice 1-2 punch to control the time of possession and dictate the pace of the game.

Walk-on running back Jayson Starks was better than both of them on Saturday, rushing for 51 yards on 12 carries and could be a nice change of pace option and work his way into certain packages after his surprising spring performance.
