The benefit of hindsight is a beautiful thing, because if I knew what I know now about Gus Malzahn’s team, there is zero chance I’d have Auburn finishing in the top four in the SEC West, let alone winning the SEC.

I wasn’t buying the Heisman hype for quarterback Jeremy Johnson, but I thought he’d be a very capable quarterback who could form a nice rapport with wide receiver D’haquille Williams and lead a prolific Tigers offense.

Well, Johnson was benched for redshirt freshman Sean White and Williams was dismissed for another off-the-field incident and Auburn is 4-2 and their best win of the year being a three-point win at Kentucky.

The defense that was expected to make a significant improvement under first-year defensive coordinator Will Muschamp hasn’t happened and injuries have been a factor in that, but there’s something missing with this team that needs a win over Arkansas this weekend to make sure they don’t finish in last place in the West.
