The Tennessee Vols are in the middle of what should be a 5-0 stretch to end the regular season. Tennessee blew out Kentucky two weeks ago to start 1-0 in that period, but barely escaped with a 28-24 victory over South Carolina last weekend.

This week’s Homecoming matchup with North Texas should be the easiest of the five, especially since the Vols are a whopping 41-point favorite. The Mean Green have already parted ways with head coach Dan McCarney, making the decision following an embarrassing 66-7 loss to Portland State that dropped them to 0-5 this season.

North Texas is currently 1-8 coming off a 56-13 loss to Louisiana Tech last week (but a 30-23 victory over UTSA in the previous game). The Mean Green has scored an average of 17.6 points and has gained 345.9 total yards of offense per game this season (both of which rank in the bottom 20 nationally), while allowing 45.6 points and 541.3 total yards per contest this season (both of which rank in the bottom five in the country).

Tennessee has a strong and balanced offense that has averaged 35.1 points, 215.0 rushing yards and 207.3 passing yards per game this year. The Vols have surrendered 24.2 points and 401.3 total yards this season, but have held three consecutive opponents (including Alabama) below those averages, so the unit is trending in the right direction.

Quarterback Joshua Dobbs has thrown for 1,760 yards with 13 touchdowns and four interceptions this season and ranks second on the team with 473 rushing yards and seven rushing TDs. Jalen Hurd has paced the squad with 815 rushing yards and seven TDs.

Of course, Dobbs, Hurd, and the rest of the starters shouldn’t need to play very long in the second half if the Vols take care of business early.
